Traffic Safety

The Hamilton Police Service is committed to road safety through education and enforcement. The quest for road safety is a shared responsibility that requires the effort of all that live and work in our community. It is this endeavor that the Traffic Branch of the Hamilton Police Service relentlessly pursues.

In 2004 the Hamilton Police Service embarked on a year of sustained effort, trying to reduce the number of motor vehicle collisions, from the standpoints of property damage, personal injury and death. This was a task that required dedication to both enforcement and education.

The Hamilton Police Service embraced all the provincial enforcement programs relating to road safety along with our own high profile initiatives, i.e. “All hands on Deck & Summer Safe”. In April of 2004 the World Health Organization directed that 2004 be the year of “Road Safety”.

Embracing this year long safety campaign which took our safety initiates to the next level the Hamilton Police Service adopted the directive and came up, in partnership with local business, the "Pay Attention …Lives Depend on it " program.

It is this continued effort of enforcement in relation to aggressive, careless and impaired driving; combined with education, which supports the belief, that road safety within the City of Hamilton can be obtained if we all work together, and strive to be number one.
