TO PREVENT FALSE ALARMS
q Upon installation, contact the monitoring station and verify that the information provided by your to the alarm company representative has been correctly added.
q Make sure everyone is fully trained on the operation of the system including cancellation procedures. Never give a key to someone who is not familiar with the system. Incorrect or improper ID codes will prompt police dispatch.
q Schedule regular service calls with your alarm company (including backup batteries.) Routine maintenance can prevent false alarms.
q Update your alarm company after any household changes such as remodeling or pets.
q Make sure that your alarm company has up-to-date key holder information and that those people are willing to attend should the police require them.
q Make sure all windows and doors are locked before activating the system.
q Make sure that the arming delay has been set for a reasonable amount of time.
q Keep pets, cobweb, balloons, curtains, plants, fax machines and fans away from motion sensors.
q Does the alarm system have an audible device? This is not only a deterrent but also notifies you of an alarm situation.
q Is the system equipped with double action panic buttons (not just one) to minimize an accidental trip?
q Has the installer advised you of the Hamilton Police Service False Alarm Program and the False Alarm Bylaw #02-001?
