Today, Hamilton Police Board Services (HPSB) Chairman announced that Glenn De Caire of the Toronto Police Service has been appointed Chief of Police, Hamilton Police Service.
Glenn De Caire takes over as head of the six largest police service in the province and becomes the 34th Chief of Hamilton Police. A 29-year veteran of Toronto Police, the 47 year-old is the Staff Superintendent in Central Field Command. In this role, he manages the operation of nine police stations delivering front line services in the City of Toronto. He oversees 2,000 officers and civilians and a $205 million budget.
“Our search for a new police chief was about finding the best candidate,” said HPSB Chair Bernie Morelli. “Glenn De Caire brings innovative ideas combined with a tremendous breadth and depth of experience dealing with policing issues.”
“With his extensive management and administrative experience, as a Board, we are certain the new chief along with Deputy Chiefs Girt and Leendertse will make an exceptionally strong command team.”
Chief-designate De Caire has progressed through the ranks of the Toronto Police Service. Since 2001 he has been a Senior Officer and it was in 2005 when he was appointed as a Staff Superintendent.
“It is an honour to be selected to represent the sworn and civilian officers of this Service,” said Chief-designate De Caire. “Together, we will be focused on the delivery of community policing for the citizens of Hamilton.”

Glenn De Caire is a graduate of York University holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies. He also holds two university certificates; Human Resources Management from York University and Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia. In 2001, Glenn graduated from the 207th Session of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia.
He is a Level III, Certified Municipal Manager from the Ontario Municipal Managers Institute and also holds the designation of Professional Manager from the Canadian Institute of Management. He also completed the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Business – Police Leadership certificate in 2008. He is a member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.
Chief-designate De Caire will begin his duties with Hamilton Police on Wednesday, December 9, 2009.
Chief-designate De Caire and his wife Kathy have three adult sons.
