S/Sgt. Mason & Sgt. Schulenberg:
I wanted to take a moment to comment on an outstanding job and fantastic display of teamwork conducted by MPU Penner, MPU Rodgers and ACTION Team members Poustie and Milne.
During the Hess Village closing time, the MPU and ACTION Team were in the process of preparing a "sweep" of Hess St.. MPU and ACTION were at the top of Hess St. @ Main positioning, when a disturbance broke out at the intersection of Hess and George. MPU alerted ACTION members and the wheels were set in motion.
Within a very short period of time several Special Duty Officers / Auxiliary Officers were in the mix. The crowd quickly surrounded them and were encouraging a fight. Needless to say, Public and Officer safety were an immediate concern.
With no direction, MPU Penner and Rodgers did a fantastic job of responding to clear the immediate area of the disturbance. Their response was nothing more than brilliant. The gallop and whistle blowing immediately alerted the crowd to advise they were coming and they better get out of the way. MPU Penner and Rodgers began to take control of the crowd.
Immediately following the MPU were ACTION members Poustie, Milne and myself. We assisted by setting up and providing a barrier for the Officers who had ended up in the middle of the crowd.
The quick and controlled response provided safety and security for the
public and our Officers. This also provided the Officers and EMS a safety zone. This could have been an extremely volatile situation had Penner, Rodgers, Poustie and Milne not acted quickly. What a great display of co-ordination and teamwork in an effort to reduce the risk to the public and our Officers. It is obvious all Officers understand the importance of control and discipline in a hostile situation.
Great Teamwork and a Great Job done by all!!!
