Chief:
We read and hear so much negative information about police officers and the department today, that I had to pass this on.
Yesterday, October 28th at approximately 12:15 pm, I left a meeting at our administration building at 55 King William St. and noticed two of your officers involved with a female and male across the street. It appeared that they were attempting to arrest the female and, in fact, in the end they did place her in a cruiser, obviously for what reason I do not know, nor does it matter to me.
The language, verbal abuse and threatening gestures heaped upon your officers was unbelievable and in fact drew a crowd of onlookers.
I cannot believe the professionalism and patience that these two officers demonstrated, which speaks to the officers attitude, training and leadership of your department and I just wanted you to know this and to congratulate them on my behalf.
They did not deserve to take, frankly, the kind of abuse that was being heaped on them.
The two officers involved I believe were John Barron - Badge # 976 and I believe, what we call a recruit, Inderjit Bharaj – Badge # 361.
As the incident progressed, they were joined by two fellow officers on horseback, whose names I do not have, one I believe was a female officer, as well as I believe, two officers from the marine unit who were in the area, and other in cruisers, again sorry I do not have names here either.
Everyone of them acted professionally and brought the situation to closure calming the male down before he went on his way.
Did it ever make you feel proud as a citizen and taxpayer that these are the kind of officers that we are putting out there to protect us.
Again Chief just congratulations to everyone involved, great job.
