Serve a Partner

On Saturday, April 5th there was a Volleyball tournament held at The Salvation Army, Mountain Citadel in Hamilton to raise money for overseas mission work. This year, The Salvation Army, Partners in Mission was focusing on Mexico and more specifically; Human Trafficking. At least 12.3 million people are victims of forced labour worldwide.  Of these, 2.4 million are as a result of human trafficking (A Global Alliance against Forced Labor, International Labour Organization, 2005). The theme of the tournament is called “Serve a Partner”.

The event raised just over $1,000.00 for the cause with over $100.00 coming in within 10 minutes before the championship game.  The event was great, bringing community people together and raising awareness and funds for a worthy cause.

With the event being a great success, we are confident that next year this event will take place once more. We anticipate additional teams participating with community members being involved.

Several members from the Mountain "C Squad" formed a team and participated in this tournament. We won all our games until the semi finals where we were beat out. A good time was had by all for this worth while cause.
