Top 3 in 3 Break and Enter Project - November 2006
The Top 3 in Three Break and Enter Project was designed and implemented by Supt Ken Bond in 2005 as a way in which young officers working out of the Mountain Division could try their skills
working as plain clothes investigators. The project is made up of plain clothes officers already working out of the Mountain High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT), Officers working out of Uniform Patrol and is led by a D/Constable seconded from the Mountain CID Office.
The goal is to monitor the behavior of active criminals within Division Three, especially those with a history of Break and Enter and other property related crimes. Several of the targets are currently before the courts on charges and have been released into the community pending their trials with strict conditions that they must follow. Others have already been convicted of their crimes and have been placed on an order of probation, also with strict conditions. The goal of the Mountain Break and Enter project is to monitor the offender’s behavior and to arrest and lay charges where a breach of court orders are observed. This is an intelligence, and target based, project which has proven effective in the past. Since the onset of the project, the 2006 Mountain Break and Enter Team has made 31 arrests, applied for 3 arrest warrants and have executed 5, laid a total of 60 charges and have recovered approximately $22, 701.93 in stolen property
As a result, the residential Break and Enter Statistics for Division Three are down almost 5% from this time last year and we hope that December will yield the same result. One of our values as a police service is that “We believe in the prevention, detection and suppression of crimes and the relentless pursuit of offenders”. This project demonstrates exactly that. These arrests will help to ensure that our community members feel safe in their homes and that the property they have work so hard for is protected.
