Sector 4 includes most of the former city of Stoney Creek. The Sector is divided into six beats, four below the escarpment and two above. The Sector includes one of the highest density beats in Hamilton (2419) and one of the lowest density beats (2424). Issues in the Sector include urban and rural problems.

The busiest day of the week for police calls for service in Sector 4 in April 2007 was Saturday. The least amount of calls were received on Tuesdays.  The busiest time of day for police calls for service in April was 10 PM.

Police officers conducted over 1000 calls for service in Sector 4 in April. The most common call in Sector 4 was Traffic Stops (TS). In fact over 16% of the police activity in Sector 4 was proactive. Of concern however, was that officers spent 7% of their call responding to false alarms. The Hamilton Police Service is looking to the community to help reduce the number of false alarms and free up officers for more proactive activity.

Highlights:

Hamilton's Largest Pot Bust

The Riverdale community (Beat 2419) and the Hamilton Police have developed strong partnerships in the past few years. Those partnerships allowed for a wholesale shift in in the quality of life in the community. A longstanding street gang was displaced. The Hamilton Police had removed 20 active gang members from the neighbourhood and closed 4 busy crack houses. Robberies decreased by 60 percent, break and enters by 45 percent and car thefts fell by 40 percent. In fact, general service calls dropped 30 percent on the whole.

Those established partnerships in the community helped the Hamilton Police detect and dismantle the largest pot growing operation in the history of Hamilton. 49 apartments spread across three apartment buildings were found and closed. Over 12,000 plants were found worth at least $12 million dollars. The investigation is still continuing and arrests are expected. This is the biggest hit that this extensive criminal organization has ever taken.
