Have a safe summer.  Don't drink and drive

The Hamilton Police Service and MADD Canada, Hamilton Chapter are recognizing the start of Summer with a message about keeping our roads and waterways safe by stopping impaired driving.

This week officially marks the start of our summer season.  Many social events, reunions and festivals are sure to be planned.   As a result there is an increase of traffic on our roads and the waterways. MADD Hamilton Chapter is urging the people of our communities to set the tone for a safe summer season by keeping the summer free from impaired driving collisions and to prevent injuries on our roads and waterways by choosing to use alternate transportation after consuming alcohol.

Dave Pidgeon, MADD Canada, Hamilton Chapter President says, “Whether you’re driving a car, boat, ATV or motorcycle, alcohol will impair your driving skills and judgment. If you are impaired, do not get behind the controls of a motor vehicle.  Unfortunately the summer months have higher rates of impaired driving crashes. MADD Hamilton reminds everyone that impaired driving crashes can be prevented – arrange a designated driver, call a cab or plan to stay over”.

“Whether you are driving a car or operating a vessel, if you are caught drinking, you are subject to the same penalties”, says Constable Claus Wagner, Hamilton Police Service Traffic Safety Coordinator.

The message is clear, if you drink don’t drive!
