Introduction
This page will guide you through the Steps for applying to our Service if you are an officer serving in Ontario, and have completed your probationary period. The Frequently Asked Questions will provide you with most of the basic information as it relates to lateral transfers. Step 1: Download the application package. Submit your completed application package along with a cover letter, detailed resume (which should outline any current continued education, self-development and community involvement) and a copy of your Basic Constable Training Diploma from the Ontario Police College.
Step 2: After your application is reviewed by the Recruiting Sergeant you will be contacted to advise whether or not you will continue in the process.

Step 3: You will be contacted to attend and complete a Pre-Background Questionnaire. The Pre-Background Questionnaire is the same as Step 6 for the new applicant.
Step 4: You will be contacted to attend a three-on-one interview. This behavioural style interview will last about 90 minutes and will provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate how you display the essential competencies of a police officer through your day-to-day work experiences. There will also be a Local Focus component to the interview similar to Step 4 and Step 9 of the new applicant process.
Step 5: If successful in Step 4, you will be asked to complete a written psychological questionnaire, the same as Step 10 for the new applicant.
Step 6: When a position for which you are being considered becomes available; will you be contacted to participate in the clinical interview component of the psychological assessment. Review Step 10 for the new applicant.
Step 7: A background investigation, Step 11 for the new applicant, will commence. We will only contact your current police service once all other references have been interviewed.
Step 8: A job offer will be made, conditional on a successful medical evaluation, Step 12 for the new applicant.
Note: You are also required to have a current fitness pin, or PREP certificate as well as up-to-date First Aid and CPR certificates prior to an offer of employment being made.
