Pre-background Questionnaire & Local Focus - Written Composition

What is the Pre-Background Questionnaire?

Each candidate is required to complete the Pre-Background Questionnaire (PBQ). This is a standardized document issued by the Constable Selection System and takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete. It assesses your personal habits by asking you questions about such things as your driving record, school and employment attendance.  At the same time, the candidate will be asked to complete a Written Local Focus document, which will be screened for spelling, grammar and attention to detail.

What happens if I do not answer the questions honestly?

Your application will be disqualified should we discover, through a background investigation or by other means, that you did not answer the questionnaire honestly.  Integrity is an essential quality for a police officer to possess.

How long is the questionnaire valid?

The questionnaire is valid during the length of your current application.
