Our Service strives to hire applicants who demonstrate our core values and ethics. Click here for a summary of our values and ethics. Below are some of the unique requirements our Service looks for when processing applicants.
· Supporting our Vision "To Be Leaders with our Communities in the Achievement of Public Safety and Security", we seek to hire Local Applicants. We believe that, to be a good police officer, you must understand the dynamics of the community you serve therefore we prefer applicants who have demonstrated a commitment to our community such as:
o Live in Hamilton or within a 45-minute commute to Hamilton.
o Have ties to Hamilton by virtue of having lived, attended school, or have family living in Hamilton.
· Supporting our Goal “To ensure our organization reflects our diverse communities”, we give preference to applicants who speak a second language and/or belong to one or more of the following groups:
o Aboriginal persons
o Visible minorities reflective of the Community of Hamilton
o Females
o Persons with a disability
· Supporting our Value of "Commitment to continuous learning, improvement and innovation", preference is afforded to candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to personal development within the past 4 years. This can include post-secondary courses, workshops, seminars or any ongoing self-development activity the candidate has or is involved with. If you have received any accreditation outside of Canada for highschool, college or university, you will need to have those transcripts evaluated by the Ministry of Education and Training.
· Because we want our members to have a “Commitment to the community”, preference is afforded to candidates who are currently active in the community and have demonstrated a history of volunteer community involvement, specifically during the last 2 years.
Additional Local Needs are:
· Demonstrated stability in work and/or education - As a general rule of thumb preference is afforded to candidates who have been engaged in schooling or have demonstrated stability in employment within the last 2 years.
· Demonstrated attention to detail - Your application package displays your ability to communicate in writing. Do not exclude yourself as a potential candidate by submitting a poorly presented package. Have someone proof read it for grammar, spelling and accuracy.
