Commander-in-charge: Chief of Police Glenn De Caire
Appointed the Chief of the Hamilton Police Service in November, 2009, Glenn De Caire oversees the operations of one of the largest major municipal law enforcement agencies in the Province of Ontario. His responsibilities include the supervision of 787 Sworn and 272 Civilian employees. Chief De Caire directs all patrol, investigative and administrative operations and administers an annual budget of $124 million.
A 29-year veteran of Toronto Police, Chief De Caire has worked in all areas of municipal policing and has extensive experience in police operations. From 2005, Chief De Caire served as Staff Superintendent until his appointment as Chief, in 2009.
Glenn De Caire is a graduate of York University holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies. He also holds two university certificates; Human Resources Management from York University and Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia. In 2001, Chief De Caire graduated from the 207th Session of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia. He is an active member of the Canadian and Ontario Associations of Chiefs of Police.
Hamilton Police Service provides policing services to over 518,000 residents. In 2009, HPS responded to over 80,000 calls for service.
About Us
The Chief's Administrative Assistant, Executive Officer, Quality Assurance Inspector, Legal and Finance representatives report directly to the Chief of Police. They support the Chief in an administrative capacity.
What We Do
Administer the Police Service consistent with the direction outlined in the Police Services Act, addressing yearly goals and objectives, discipline, community based policing and public complaints.
Report on a regular basis to the Police Services Board.
Administer the Business Plan.
Develop an internal environment consistent with the organizational values.
Assist in labour relations issues and contract negotiations.
Maintain financial control of the Service.
Prepare and administer the Adequacy Standards and the Public Complaints process.
