About Us
The main responsibility of the Support Services Division is to manage the Hamilton Police Service’s emergency response functions, traffic, communications and court services.
What We Do
Protecting the safety of citizens by containing and resolving dangerous situations is the primary focus of the specialized response units that form the Emergency Response Branch.
Branch personnel routinely intervene in a host of critical incidents ranging from negotiations with armed, barricaded suspects to locating and disarming explosive devices.
While all uniform officers are trained and equipped to effectively diffuse volatile incidents, high-risk situations do arise that demand specialist intervention. The Support Services Division meets this challenge with the expertise offered by such units as Canine, Emergency Response and Marine Units.
The security of our courts and the transportation and temporary accommodation of prisoners are given to the Courts Unit. This unit keeps track of all accused persons in the custody of the Hamilton Police Service.
