Victims of Crime Branch

The Victims of Crime Branch consists of the following units:

 

Child Abuse Unit:  905-546-3858

The Child Abuse Unit investigates all cases of intra-familial and extra-familial abuse (physical and sexual) where the complainant is presently under the age of 16 years.

 

All cases involving intra-familial abuse and any other cases involving child safety/protection issues, are jointly investigated with the community Children’s Aid Societies as per established written protocol.

  

The Unit works in partnership with local community social agencies involved in the field of child protection by participating as members of community child abuse committees and by conducting joint training.

 

Sexual Assault Unit:  905-540-5553

The Sexual Assault Unit investigates all cases of sexual assault of individuals over 16 years and conducts all follow-up investigations once their initial responding officer has completed the initial reports.

 

The Unit works in conjunction with Investigative Services Division and Crime Analysts and assists in maintaining and monitoring a local file of potential sex offenders.

 

Liaise, foster and continue to promote positive relationships with the Sexual Assault Treatment Program, Sexual Assault Centre, Victim Services and other recognized support groups.

 

Crimes Against Seniors Unit:  905-540-5300; 905-540-5155

The Crimes Against Seniors Unit investigates crimes against persons that are 60 years of age and older or at risk adults, who are being victimized primarily because of their age.

 

The Unit works closely with community agencies to insure that all reported cases of assault, financial exploitation and neglect against the elderly are properly investigated.
